You’ve got six weeks till the end of the year… or do you?

Now or Later with Red MarkerHere we are in the second week of November, which leaves about six weeks to wrap up our commitments, right?

Wrong.

Yes, I know what the calendar says, but just counting lines on the calendar won’t take into account the naturally occurring breaks (make that bites) that are going to be taken out by the upcoming holidays. Moreover, it doesn’t account for the additional personal and vacation time many people take around this time of year. Consider all this and even “four weeks left” starts to sound like a generous estimation!

What this shortened timeline means for you?

Simple- hurry up!

Practically, that means anything you need to wrap up by the end of December should be well along the way by now. If that’s not the case for one or more of your important 2013 goals, today’s the day to really get moving.

Beyond finishing up any outstanding commitments, now is also the time to make sure you get on your stakeholders’ calendar to review your 2013 accomplishments as per the plan you set out earlier in the year. Their availability (and hopefully yours) will soon disappear as everyone begins taking time off to spend with their families. And if you wait until the new year to schedule time, your request will be just another “new year’s meeting.” Ergo … the sooner you schedule these meetings the better.

Above all, remember: as we come closer to the end of the year, you have far fewer “tomorrows” left in 2013 than you think, so best to focus on wrapping things up right now (before the Christmas music takes over the office).
